Overview
A supply chain professional is responsible for overseeing contracts with suppliers to ensure the best prices possible for their company. They order materials that their company needs by analyzing multiple product costs, negotiating contract deals, and coming up with strategies to track the best vendors. They can work in any industry to buy materials for their specific company's needs. Ultimately, a supply chain professional tries to get the lowest prices for their company purchases and maintain quality control.
Requirements
In order to become a supply chain professional, one must hold at least a bachelor’s degree in supply chain, business, or a related field. Those sure about pursuing procurement can specifically major in supply chain management, sales, logistics, or business administration. However, for those who decide on procurement later in life, any knowledge in business or sales can be transferred over to supply chain management and will be useful.
