Sowmya Ramakrishnan works at First American Financial Corporation as a Lead IT Functional Analyst. She completed a Bachelors in Physics and a Masters in Computer Applications.
Overview
Functional analysts assist their companies in the use of different software programs by assessing, installing, and troubleshooting the systems. They enjoy working with different people and have strong analytical and critical thinking skills. They act as the bridge between softwares and employees and work with technology just as much as they work with their coworkers. Most functional analysts assess current software systems that their company uses, document how to use the software for other employees, troubleshoot when the company runs into any issues, and make changes accordingly.
Requirements
The general education needed for functional analysts is a bachelor’s degree, preferably in computer science or information technology (IT). In this day and age, knowing a couple of programming languages and understanding different softwares is also encouraged and preferred by companies. An analyst’s experience stems from their specific job, since different companies use different softwares, so on-the-job training is an important aspect for functional analysts.
