Overview
A classroom support provider works with special needs students and guides them through class lessons. They are responsible for supervising and collecting data on their specific student to create behavioral goals and individualized education for them. CSPs act as a second teacher in the class to create individualized education plans for each student’s success. CSPs may be involved in assisting students with any needs they have, including hygiene.
Requirements
A CSP needs at minimum a college degree as well as teaching credentials. There is no specific degree required but it may help to study psychology or applied behavior analysis for a CSP to understand his/her students better. Some schools may prefer a completed or in progress bachelor’s and/or master’s degree. Additionally, CSPs should take a few Child Development courses to educate them on the developmental patterns and learning strategies of children to be better equipped in the classroom.
